Sometimes authors try to give readers hints about something important in their story by writing an emotionally intense scene between two characters. On pages 252–253, Madame Chang and Peiyi are in such a scene. Reread page 252 starting at “‘Yes,’ Madame Chang said” through page 253 ending with “…into a peaceful stillness.” Think about what has happened here. What might Madame Chang be trying to help Peiyi understand? Give at least two reasons for why you think that.
