Determine the Maximum Value for a Scenario Guidance for Casio fx-9750GIII

Find a maximum value for the scenario.

The design of a rectangular pool calls for a perimeter of feet.  What would be the measure of the length and the width that would create the maximum surface area?

Step 1

From the Main Menu, Press 5 to enter the GRAPH Mode, GRAPH FUNC will appear first.

Step 2

Enter the function that represents the area of the pool. Press EXE after entering the function. 

Step 3

Click Draw (F6).

Step 4

To resize the graph window, press SHIFT, then F3.

Change the scales, by clicking EXE. Then Click EXE or EXIT when finished.

Step 5

Click F1.  Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the vertex. Entering a number will move the cursor to that -value.

What is the maximum surface area?

Step 6

Click Menu, then TABLE to see the table associated with this function.

Step 7

Click TABLE F6 to access the table associated with the graph of the function.

Step 8

Click ROW F3 to add higher -values into the table.  How could you know, without looking at the graph, that a point in the table was the highest?
