Lesson 11: Practice Problems

Problem 1

  1. Graph these points in the coordinate plane: , , , .

A coordinate plane with the origin labeled "O." The x-axis has the numbers negative 7 through 7 indicated. The y-axis has the numbers negative 5 through 5 indicated.
  2. Connect all of the points. Describe the figure.

Problem 2

Diego was asked to plot these points: , , , , . What interval could he use for each axis? Explain your reasoning.

Problem 3

Write the coordinates of each point.

Five points, labeled A through E, are plotted on a coordinate plane with the origin labeled "O". The horizontal axis is labeled negative 8 through 8, in increments of two. The vertical axis is labeled negative 6 through 6, in increments of two. Points A through E are plotted as follows: Point A, one half unit to the right of the origin. Point B, one and one half units down from the origin. Point C, three units to the left and two and one half units up from the origin. Point D, one and one half units to the left and two and one half units down from the origin. Point E, one half unit to the left and two units up from the origin.

Problem 4

Find the value of each expression.

Problem 5

Lin and Tyler are drawing circles. Tyler’s circle has twice the diameter of Lin’s circle. Tyler thinks that his circle will have twice the area of Lin’s circle as well. Do you agree with Tyler?
