How might I recount a memorable experience from my life as a personal narrative?

Write a brief personal narrative that is based on your own experiences or view of the world.

Model the storytelling approach used by an author you have read to recount and dramatize a meaningful experience from your own life or to produce a narrative that communicates your view of your life or the world.

In writing your personal narrative, be sure to do the following:

  • Use and present your unique style and author’s voice.

  • Emulate the storytelling approach taken by Twain, Tan, Obama, Santos, or another author you have read and admire.

  • Use details, sensory language, and images to describe setting, characters, and events.

  • Use dialogue.

  • Communicate a theme that is related to your view of your life or the world.
