Activity 1: Present

We will summarize our texts and share the understanding we have gained through our independent reading.

If you have completed tools to help you analyze the text you selected for your independent reading, prepare them so you can share them with a partner, group, class, or teacher.

Be prepared to give an overview of what your text is about and how it relates to the unit.

You can use your tools to help summarize any details and analyses.

Activity 2: Write

We will continue our independent reading, deepening our understanding of the text itself and how it relates to the unit.

Continue to monitor the pace of your reading, using guidance from your teacher regarding how much you should be reading each week.

If you are using tools to help analyze the text, you might use Forming Evidence-Based Claims Tools to make substantive claims about specific elements of your text. These claims might even highlight how your text relates to the unit. You might also continue to use Note-Taking Tools, noting details and important aspects of the text on the tool itself or in your Learning Log.

You might prepare a brief summary of your text to share for the next discussion.
