Development Unit: Global Food Production

In a study of the growing societal, economic, and environmental issues concerning food scarcity, we will examine the Central Question of this unit: How do we feed a growing population in a viable way? We will begin with an overview and brief history of modern agriculture, introducing the elements that make up our current food system. We will then explore different perspectives on the environmental, economic, and societal aspects of the food ecosystem, understanding the potential questions and solutions that arise from these viewpoints. To synthesize what we have learned, we will write an argumentative essay that explores the future of the food system, articulating how we should address our most salient and pressing challenges.
