Activity 1: Discuss

We will share the understanding we have gained through our independent reading.

If you have completed tools to help you take notes and analyze your text, prepare them so you can share them with your partner, group, class, or teacher.

Be prepared to give an overview of what your text is about and how it relates to the unit of instruction. Be sure to use your tools to help summarize any details and analysis.

Activity 2: Discuss

We will continue to read our independent reading texts outside of class, deepening our understanding of the text itself and how it relates to the unit.

Continue to monitor the pace of your reading, using guidance from your teacher on how much you should be reading each week.

If you are using tools to help analyze the text, you might begin to use Forming Evidence-Based Claims Tools to make claims about specific elements of your text and note how these elements relate to the unit.

You might also continue to use Note-Taking Tools, noting details on the tool itself or in your Learning Log, so that you can keep track of important aspects of your text.

You might prepare a brief summary of your text to share for the next discussion.
