Activity 1: Read

We will review and learn more about the expression, grammar, and usage concepts that have been focused on in this unit.

Participate in a class discussion about how to improve the clarity and power of expression in an argument.

Access your Mentor Sentence Journal. Follow along as your teacher reviews the grammar and usage concepts.

Activity 2: Write

We will use sentence-modeling exercises to improve the clarity and power of our sentences, word choices, and overall expression.

Follow along as your teacher introduces, models, and leads you in sentence-building practice.

Activity 3: Read – Discuss

With editing partners, we will review our draft arguments, focusing on expression, grammar, and usage concepts.

With a writing partner, use a criteria-based review process to review the sentences and word choices in your draft argument.

Identify sentences and language that are unclear in meaning and sentences and word choices that might be more powerful and thus increase the vigor of the argument.

Read your draft to your writing partner, and ask your partner to describe the overall tone of the expression and voice behind the argument.

Activity 4: Read

With editing partners, we will review our draft arguments, focusing on grammar and usage concepts.

With a writing partner, use a criteria-based review process to review your draft argument for identified grammar and usage issues.

Activity 5: Write

Based on what we have learned and the feedback we have received, we will edit and revise our drafts to correct any grammar and usage errors.

Do a final revision and editing of your draft to improve its expression and correct grammar or usage errors.

Activity 6: Write

For homework, we will finish editing our draft arguments and prepare a final draft to share with the class, our intended audience, and our teacher.

For homework, complete a final revision of your draft, editing it to improve the expression and to correct identified grammar and usage errors.

Based on your purpose, audience, and the expectations for your final product, produce a published argument that will be presented to the class and submitted to your teacher.
