Section 3: Overview

Deepening Understanding

Now that we have developed a research frame using our Research Frame Tools and collected some key sources, we will analyze what we have found, research further, and compile our source analyses. We will focus on closely reading our key sources, drafting claims, and evaluating the completeness of our research.

  • Lesson 1:

    Identify and Annotate Key Sources

We will choose and begin to read closely four key sources from those we have compiled so far, quoting and paraphrasing sections that are relevant to our research and taking detailed notes to share with our team.

  • Lesson 2:

    Analyze Key Sources

We will closely read the four key sources we chose in the previous lesson. We will quote and paraphrase sections that are relevant to our research, take detailed notes, and share our findings with our team.

  • Lesson 3:

    Synthesize Analysis

We will synthesize our understanding across multiple sources and organize our notes by topic and theme. We will review and revise our Central Research Questions to account for our new understanding and information from sources.

  • Lesson 4:

Discuss and Write Claims in Response to Inquiry Questions

We will learn about different types of evidence-based claims and write evidence-based claims about our inquiry questions.

  • Lesson 5:

    Organize Claims

We will continue to refine, organize, and develop claims about our inquiry questions so we can begin planning our presentation.

  • Lesson 6:

    Revise Research Frame Tool

We will finalize the Research Frame Tool, organize our work so far, and establish the next steps to take in our investigation.

  • Lesson 7:

    Present, Review, and Revise

We will share our research with other research teams to receive and provide feedback to inform further revisions and establish our next steps as we prepare to finalize our inquiry.

  • Lesson 8:

We will reflect on our work and process, submit our research materials for feedback and formative assessment, and prepare for the next section of the unit, in which we finalize our inquiry.
