Activity 1: Read – Write

We will ensure we understand the Section Diagnostic requirements, choose our focus panels from Lawrence’s The Migration Series, and draft a focus statement for our presentation.

Step 1

Listen and read along silently as your teacher reads the prompt from the Section 3 Diagnostic Checklist.

In your group, share your initial thinking about the set of panels you selected for homework. Help each group member make a decision about which one panel seems like the best match to be the focus of your presentation.

Step 2

Review your Vocabulary Journal. Identify a significant word or words that you would like to use in your presentation.

Individually, draft your focus statement, which might be something like “Panel X best represents the history of the Great Migration as presented by Wilkerson’s text because . . .”

Activity 2: Write

We will plan and create our Section Diagnostic presentations.

Individually, but while still sitting with your group so that you have assistance nearby, develop your focus statement by selecting evidence from both the painting and the text, outline your presentation, and select visuals and digital media that will develop your points and enhance your presentation.

Activity 3: Write

In preparation for the Section Diagnostic presentations, we will reflect on the next steps.

Individually, compose a quick-write in which you reflect on your progress and the next steps you will take, focusing on the following questions:

  1. What remains to be done in order for you to be ready to present your slides?

  2. What additional content do you need?

  3. What additional graphics or design work do you need?

Activity 4: Write

For homework, complete and practice your presentation.
