Lesson 6

We will continue to develop, plan, rehearse, and receive feedback on our presentations in order to prepare for the Section Diagnostic.

Lesson Goals

  • Can I recognize points of connection among Lawrence’s paintings and Wilkerson’s text and their perspectives to make logical, objective comparisons?

  • Can I use devices, techniques, descriptions, reasoning, evidence, and visual elements to support and elaborate on coherent and logical narratives, explanations, and arguments?

Activity 1: Read

We will learn about creating effective visuals for our presentations.

Participate in a mini-lesson about creating effective visuals for your presentation.

Activity 2: Write

We will plan and create our Section Diagnostic presentations.

Individually, using your quick-write from the previous lesson regarding next steps, continue to develop your presentation so you are prepared to rehearse your presentation with a partner in the next activity.

Activity 3: Present

We will rehearse our presentations with our partners and receive feedback on our speaking skills and slide presentations.

With your partner, take turns rehearsing your presentation and providing feedback to your partner on their speaking skills and slide presentation.

Activity 4: Discuss

We will reflect on the rehearsals and the peer feedback provided.

Engage in a reflective whole-class discussion centered on the following guiding questions:

  1. What went well for you during the completion of this task?

  2. With what did you struggle during the completion of this task? How did you push through those struggles?

  3. What are your priorities for revision based on the feedback you received?

Activity 5: Write

We will revise our content and ideas to ensure that our work is appropriate to the task, purpose, and audience.

Individually, review the peer feedback and revise your presentation, paying attention to how clearly you have communicated your ideas.

Activity 6: Write

In preparation for the Section Diagnostic presentations, we will reflect on next steps.

Individually, revise the quick-write in which you reflected on your progress and the necessary next steps, focusing on the following questions:

  1. What remains to be done in order for you to be ready to present your slides?

  2. What additional content do you need?

  3. What additional graphics or design work do you need?
