Section 2: Section Diagnostic

With an understanding of how Morrison utilizes the literary element of flashback, write your own narrative vignette that includes a flashback.

Your vignette should employ the following:

  • effective diction, syntax, and vocabulary

  • an appropriate mood, voice, and tone

  • strong character development

    • glimpses of character behaviors and underlying motivations that might contribute to moral dilemmas that influence the plot and theme of an overall narrative

    • an obvious point of view, usually first person or third person (point of view and narrator may shift)

  • an established setting (which may or may not change in the flashback)
