Foundation Unit 2: What does it mean to live a life well-lived?

We will read a wide range of personal essays and lyrical poems, explore a variety of perspectives, and develop our own sense of personal meaning as we address the Central Question: What does it mean to live a life well-lived? Through our reading, discussion, and investigation, we will develop our skills in responding to questions, analyzing and evaluating texts and their perspectives, forming evidence-based claims, using textual evidence to support our thinking, and writing personal reflections, essays, or narratives. Our initial reading will set us up for later learning in the unit in which we will work in seminar discussion teams to extend our thinking about living a life well-lived. Through our study of possible compasses we might carry as we undertake our journeys in the world around us, we will also learn about the norms and expectations of this year, this class, and this unit, which emphasize exploring important topics and questions, actively engaging and collaborating in a quest for deeper understanding, reading meaningful texts closely, and developing critical literacy skills and habits.
