Activity 1: Discuss

We will do a group check-in.

In your small group, check in on each other’s progress by answering the following questions:

  1. How is research going? Are there any problems or issues?

  2. What kind of information are we finding?

  3. What is going well?

  4. What are some things we can work on?

Next, make a group goal for the class period by answering the following question:

  1. What do we want to accomplish during this lesson?

Have one group member take notes during this discussion. These notes will be given to your teacher at the end of class.

Activity 2: Write

We will conduct in-depth research to find primary sources related to our topic.

In your small group, begin your research. Make sure to follow your group norms and complete your group role.

Take notes for each source on the Research Note-Taking Tool, making sure to document the following:

  • title of source

  • author of source

  • URL

  • type of source

  • summary of information

  • three quotes you could use in your song lyrics

Activity 3: Discuss

We will hand in our group notes from the beginning of class.

Hand in the notes your group took for the first activity to your teacher.

Also, in your small group, make sure group members know their responsibilities to complete at home to make sure your group is ready for the Section Diagnostic.
