Section 5: Overview

Culminating Task

We will prepare to write, develop, and publish the Culminating Task essay. We will reflect on the understanding we have built through the unit texts by engaging in a reflective class discussion.

  • Lesson 1:

We will engage in a discussion focused on how the film directors’ choices enhance or detract from the development of themes in Romeo and Juliet. We will engage in a philosophical chairs discussion with a peer.

  • Lesson 2:

We will prepare to write and begin developing our written response to the Culminating Task. We will start by reviewing model paragraphs and examining possible structures for the Culminating Task. We will complete an outline of our Culminating Task using the Culminating Task Planning Guide.

  • Lesson 3:

We will begin drafting our response to the Culminating Task using our notes from the Culminating Task Planning Guide and class discussion.

  • Lesson 4:

We will continue to develop our written response to the Culminating Task by revising our work, focusing on organization and support. We will work with partners to obtain and offer feedback.

  • Lesson 5:

We will edit our revised literary analysis and publish the final draft.

  • Lesson 6:

We will reflect on the skills and habits we developed and strengthened as we worked on the Culminating Task. We will finish the unit by engaging in a whole-class discussion about Romeo and Juliet. We will also discuss Culminating Task topics that relate to the unit and identify possible pathways to explore for the Application Unit.

  • Lesson 7:

In a culminating activity, we share the knowledge we have gained and the connections we have made by reading our independent reading texts.
