Activity 1: Listen – Read – Discuss – Write

We will obtain peer feedback and make any necessary revisions.

Read your essay draft aloud to a peer and provide feedback on whether the thesis statement is sufficiently supported in a clear and coherent way as the essay progresses. Use the Culminating Task Checklist to discuss with your partner if your essay is doing what it is supposed to do. Revise the ideas, evidence, and explanations of your essay as needed.

When the development and organization of your essay seem solid, turn your attention to its sentences and work to improve the variety, vigor, and exactness.

Based on the feedback you get and your own reflection, identify several specific aspects of your essay that you want to improve as you develop a final draft.

Review your Vocabulary Journal and Mentor Sentence Journals. Be sure you incorporate at least one word and emulate one stylistic technique in your essay.

Revise your essay to address the goals for improvement you have identified. Prepare a final draft for editing and proofing, which you will do in the next lesson, before submitting a published copy of your essay.
