Lesson 8

We will continue our study of the questions: Is it possible to protect an individual’s privacy with the rise of artificial intelligence? Why or why not? We will discuss the study “Big Data: Seizing Opportunities, Preserving Values” in a Socratic Seminar.

Activity 1: Discuss

We will do final preparations for a Socratic Seminar.

Look over your Forming Evidence-Based Claims Tool and have your Discussion Tool ready.

With the whole class, review the expectations of the Socratic Seminar.

Activity 2: Discuss – Write

We will participate in a Socratic Seminar.

Reference your notes, completed Forming Evidence-Based Claims Tools, and Discussion Tool as you discuss the guiding questions in a Socratic Seminar:

  1. How could big data interfere with our privacy?

  2. What are the potential benefits of big data?

  3. What are the potential risks of big data?

  4. How do we reconcile big data and privacy?

Take notes on the During the Discussion section of the Discussion Tool during the seminar.

Activity 3: Write

We will individually reflect on the Socratic Seminar and our participation.

After the discussion, complete the After the Discussion section of the Discussion Tool, including the Skill and Habit Self-Evaluation.

Activity 4: Discuss

We will reflect on the Socratic Seminar as a class.

With the teacher facilitating, discuss your reflections on the Socratic Seminar.
