Section 4: Overview

Analyzing the Big Ideas in Frankenstein

In this section, we will finalize our considerations about the major themes we have explored throughout the text as we have explored the Central Question as it relates to the pursuit of knowledge, human connection, nature versus nurture, and unintended consequences. To deepen our considerations, we will conduct rhetorical analysis on various texts.

  • Lesson 1:

We will review various rhetorical strategies as a means for analyzing Frankenstein in preparation for our Section Diagnostic.

  • Lesson 2:

We will continue our study of rhetoric within Frankenstein using an example of rhetorical analysis as a lens.

  • Lesson 3:

We will finish the novel while engaging in meaningful discussion about the rhetorical choices of Shelley’s characters and the big ideas of the novel.

  • Lesson 4:

As we begin to prepare for the Section Diagnostic, we will work in pairs to conduct rhetorical analysis on an article about the novel.

  • Lesson 5:

We have practiced conducting rhetorical analysis on multiple types of texts. To demonstrate our understanding of the skill, we will write responses that rhetorically analyze an article about what scientists can learn from Frankenstein.

  • Lesson 6:

We will review feedback on the Section Diagnostic. We will use the feedback to make revisions to our work.

  • Lesson 7:

We will share the analyses we have made about our independent reading texts and make connections to the unit. We will plan a final product to share our experiences from reading independently and the knowledge we have gained.
