Foundation Unit 1Culminating Task

Central Question

How Can I Prepare for Life after High School?

Task Question

  1. What do I need to do to be prepared for life after high school?

Part 1: Individual Portfolio

Investigate your chosen postsecondary pathway (four-year university, two-year community college, vocational or technical profession, or military) in a research team, and individually create a portfolio of artifacts (résumé, Common App essay, sample application, and mock interview) you need to enter into that pathway.

Be sure to address all components of the Portfolio Requirements handout.

Part 2: Next Steps Narrative Reflection

Write a multiparagraph reflective narrative to your teacher that describes your research and explains why you have chosen your postsecondary pathway. Respond to the following questions:

  1. How can I prepare for life after high school?

  2. What academic experiences do I need this year to prepare myself to enter my postsecondary pathway?

  3. What are my strengths and areas of needed growth as a person entering this pathway?

To demonstrate your understanding of the topic, do the following:

  • Clearly articulate why this postsecondary pathway is of interest to you.

  • Share what you learned about your pathway and raise additional questions you have.

  • Explain what you need to do this year to be prepared to enter your program of choice.

    • Be as specific as possible. For example, include your desired ACT or SAT scores and the dates you want to take the tests, your desired GPA, the technical or vocational classes required to enter a program, or your required physical ability level.

  • Clearly explain what reading, writing, speaking, or collaborative experiences you need this year to strengthen your individual skills for success in your pathway.

  • Cite at least two sources from the unit to support your reflection.

  • Use correct and effective syntax and mechanics to clearly communicate ideas.
