Lesson 6

We will revise and rehearse our presentation in order to be prepared for the Section Diagnostic.

Lesson Goals

  • Can I participate collaboratively, offering ideas or judgments that are purposeful in moving the team toward goals, asking relevant and insightful questions, tolerating a range of positions and ambiguity in decision making, and evaluating the work of the group based on agreed-upon criteria when researching and revising my team presentations?

  • Can I practice using an appropriate mode of delivery, whether written, oral, or multimodal, to present my research results?

Activity 1: Write – Discuss

We will combine the components we have been working on and make final revisions to our presentations.

Work with your seminar team to pull together the various components of your presentation.

Review the Section 3 Diagnostic Checklist and the Drafting a Work Using Your Organization section of the Organization Reference Guide. Work with your seminar team to make final revisions to your presentation.

Use the guiding questions to help you review your presentation:

  1. Who is going to start your presentation? Who will end? How will you immediately engage the audience? Who will answer questions?

  2. Is all content in your presentation final and ready to be presented?

  3. If applicable, are all technological components ready for your presentation?

Activity 2: Present

We will rehearse our presentations.

Now practice the delivery of the presentation with your seminar team. You might need to do this several times in order to fine tune the presentation for the following points:

  1. Does the presentation answer the Task Questions?

    1. What have you—individually and collectively—discovered about living a life well-lived from the stories, metaphors, and potential compasses you have encountered in this unit?

    2. How might you express your discoveries through an evocative presentation involving reflection, storytelling, and visual imagery?

  2. Does the presentation clearly reflect your inquiry questions, findings, and conclusions and include sufficient evidence to support your key points?

  3. Is the presentation interesting, powerful, and evocative, thus engaging the audience?

  4. Does the presentation fit within the 5-7 minute requirement of the task, also allowing for a few questions from the audience? If not, do you need to consider removing or adding information?

Be prepared to deliver your presentation to the class in the following lesson.
