Activity 1: Discuss

We will set goals and create a plan so that we are successful in our pathway presentation.

Review your group’s norms and then respond to the following questions:

  1. What do we need to do to successfully complete the Culminating Task (e.g., gather more sources; analyze sources; develop claims; determine our task, purpose, and audience; draft our presentation; revise our presentation; edit our presentation; lead a conference with our teacher)?

  2. How are we, individually, going to contribute to our group during the lesson?

  3. How will we know we have met our goal at the end of the lesson?

Find the activity in your Foundation Unit Research and Presentation Guide that corresponds with your goal for the lesson. Over the course of the next few lessons, you will need to complete all relevant components of the three major sections of the Foundation Unit Research and Presentation Guide:

  1. Initiating Inquiry

  2. Collecting and Analyzing Sources

  3. Creating and Delivering Your Presentation

We will reflect on our work to determine how prepared we are for the Culminating Task.

Respond to the following questions on your Culminating Task Progress Tracker with your group:

  1. Did we meet the goals we set at the beginning of the lesson? How do we know we met our goals? Provide evidence.

  2. How did we individually contribute to our group during the lesson?

  3. On a scale from one to four, how well do we understand _____ (the topic, our research, the texts we read during this lesson, the presentation plan)?
