Section 3: Overview

Exploring Ethical Implications

We will work in our research teams to explore the ethical implications of our chosen topic. We will practice our ability to make cross-textual connections, analyze texts for bias and relevance, and work on creating an annotated bibliography. We will also establish and work on our presentation.

  • Lesson 1:

We will make connections between foundational texts and our pathway texts, and reflect on our current understanding of ethics and our pathways.

  • Lesson 2:

We will work in our research teams to continue reading, analyzing, and evaluating a common seed text from the Foundation Unit Pathway Texts. We will evaluate the credibility of the text, and reflect on how prepared we are for the Culminating Task.

  • Lesson 3:

We will work in our research teams to read, analyze, and evaluate another common seed text. We will write an annotated bibliography of a text and compare our text-based observations and evaluations, synthesizing and extending our understanding by posing new text-dependent inquiry questions.

  • Lesson 4:

We will work in our research teams to determine and complete the objectives (e.g., analyzing a text for credibility, determining task, purpose, and audience, leading a peer conference) required for our research presentation.

  • Lesson 5:

We will work in our research teams to determine and complete the objectives (e.g., analyzing a text for credibility, determining task, purpose, and audience, leading a peer conference) required for our research presentation.

  • Lesson 6:

We will work in our research teams to determine and complete the objectives (e.g., analyzing a text for credibility, determining task, purpose, and audience, leading a peer conference) required for our research presentation.

  • Lesson 7:

We will create annotated bibliographies that summarize each previously read source and its connection to the pathway topic. We will identify the title and author of each source, provide a brief summary of each source, include quotes or ideas from the text that can be used in the creation of our presentations, assist in our individual and group understanding of the pathway topic, and answer any remaining questions.

  • Lesson 8:

We will review feedback on the Section Diagnostic. We will use the feedback to make revisions to our work.

  • Lesson 9:

We will share the analyses we have made about our independent reading texts and make connections to the unit. We will plan a final product to share our experiences from reading independently and the knowledge we have gained.
