Activity 1: Discuss – Write

We will share our figurative language analyses of Act 2, Scene 2 with our home groups.

If your teacher has assigned home groups, form them now. If you are to form your own home groups, find students from each other expert group. Ensure that each home group has at least one expert from each expert group.

In your home group, discuss the literal meaning and significance of the lines you analyzed. Use your Figurative Language Jigsaw Tool and the claim you made in your expert group to help explain the analysis of your lines. Take notes for the lines you did not analyze as an expert and respond to the following question:

  1. What effect does figurative language have on theme development in the play?

Activity 2: Read – Discuss – Write

We will read the remaining lines of Act 2, Scene 2 of Romeo and Juliet.

Read and annotate Lines 143-205. As you read, pay attention to the plan that Romeo and Juliet make.

As a class, respond to the following questions about Act 2, Scene 2:

  1. What plan do Romeo and Juliet make?

  2. Does this plan seem reasonable?

  3. How does the plan support what we know so far about the personalities of Romeo and Juliet?

  4. How does the plan connect to themes of the play?

Capture the discussion in your Character Note-Taking Tool and Text-Theme Note-Taking Tool.
