Section 2: Overview

Researching Change Agents

We will continue to build foundational as well as new knowledge as we research change agents in a specific pathway using our definition of a change agent and an inquiry question to guide our study. We will collect and analyze potential sources for their credibility and usefulness.

  • Lesson 1:

If we need additional practice to craft a definition of a change agent based on key understandings from four core texts, we will find one quote in each text and use these quotes to drill down to our definitions of a change agent.

  • Lesson 2:

We will read and analyze “Agents of Change,” which will help frame our research pathways.

  • Lesson 3:

We will select our research teams, decide a pathway to research, develop our initial inquiry questions, and plan for our research.

  • Lesson 4:

We will use our definition of change agents and our foundational and pathway texts to make meaningful connections and draw conclusions about the qualities of change agents and the characteristics of change.

  • Lesson 5:

We will work in our research teams to continue reading, analyzing, and evaluating a text from the pathway text set. We will assess the text’s perspective, credibility, and relevance.

  • Lesson 6:

We will find additional sources and analyze them for relevance, credibility, and bias.

  • Lesson 7:

We will continue to find additional sources and analyze them for relevance, credibility, and bias.

  • Lesson 8:

We will continue to find additional sources and analyze them for relevance, credibility, and bias.

  • Lesson 9:

We will participate in Socratic Seminars with another research team to prepare for the Section Diagnostic Socratic Seminar with the whole class.

  • Lesson 10:

Utilizing evidence from “Agents of Change” by Phil Patton and any other texts we have read during the unit, we will engage in a Socratic Seminar.

  • Lesson 11:

We will review the teacher’s feedback on our Section Diagnostic and will use the feedback to make revisions to our work.

  • Lesson 12:

We will share the understandings we have gained by reading our independent reading texts and continue to read our texts.
