Lesson 1

We will extend our understanding of the literary lenses in In the Time of the Butterflies.

Activity 1: Write

We will consider important information about In the Time of the Butterflies and the literary lenses.

Step 1

On your Extending Understanding Tool, write down important details regarding the sisters as revolutionaries and your knowledge of each literary lens. Refer to your Learning Log and the tools used over the course of the unit to help gather details.

Step 2

Write your own new guiding question about the sisters as revolutionaries or one of the literary lenses.

Activity 2: Write

We will extend our understanding of the concept of what a revolutionary is and our understanding of the literary lenses.

Write down important information that answers your guiding question. Use In the Time of the Butterflies and any other material from this unit.

Determine new ideas that relate to your guiding question.

Explain how your new ideas are connected to each other in the Analyze Relationships section of your Extending Understanding Tool.

Activity 3: Write

We will synthesize ideas and form a new evidence-based claim.

Based on your new ideas, form a new evidence-based claim or question from your analysis of the materials from this unit.
