Activity 1: Write
We will revise the drafts of our literary analysis essays.
Reread your essay. As you do this, write down editing comments to help improve your organization. Use Part 7 of the Culminating Task Planning Guide and the questions below to guide your review and revisions:
Does your essay answer the Culminating Task questions?
Does your textual evidence support your thesis?
Is there an analysis that explains and elaborates on the evidence?
Does this essay have a clear organizational structure?
Is there a logical conclusion at the end of the essay that leaves a strong, final impression on your audience?
Analyze how your draft is developed.
Does your thesis need to be revised? Is it fully developed? Does it make sense?
Analyze how your draft is organized.
Do you present your information in a logical way that provides evidence and support for your thesis?
Revise your draft by rethinking its organization, adding or expanding details, and building on ideas that need additional support.
Analyze the coherence of your ideas, looking at how you have made connections and transitions among ideas, claims, and paragraphs. See the Connecting Ideas Reference Guide for suggestions of words and phrases to use when connecting or transitioning between ideas.

We will edit the rough draft of our literary analysis essay.
Use Part 8 of the Culminating Task Planning Guide to guide your review and revisions. Reread your essay. As you do this, write down editing comments to help improve your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Look for places to include rich sentences that use the em-dash or phrasal adjectives.
