Materials
There are no materials for this Lesson.Activity 1: Read – Discuss
We will exchange our overviews with partners to provide context for our vignettes.
Exchange overviews with a partner. Read your partner’s overview to ensure you have a good understanding of their desired narrative goals. Ask for clarification if necessary.
Discuss the following question:
How has your research informed the content of your narrative and your message?
Activity 2: Read – Discuss – Write – Listen
We will exchange draft vignettes with our partners and provide feedback.
Exchange drafts with a partner. Read your partner’s vignette, and write feedback on sticky notes or in the margins of their paper.
Remember, you are providing two types of feedback:
reinforcing (e.g., “You did a nice job with the description of the setting. Your word choice really helped me picture it in my mind.”)
constructive (e.g., “Your character doesn’t seem entirely believable. Maybe try inserting a flashback to help the reader understand more about her background.”)
Activity 3: Read – Discuss – Write
We will examine our partners’ written feedback.
Examine your partner’s feedback. Write a response for each piece of feedback on a sticky note or in your Learning Log.
Activity 4: Read – Discuss – Write
We will discuss the feedback with our partners and explore ideas for revising our vignettes.
Now that you have had time to individually process your partner’s feedback, engage in a discussion with your partner. You might do the following:
ask for additional clarification
offer new ideas
build upon ideas
return to the novel for examples of various techniques
Activity 5: Read – Write
For homework, we will revise our vignettes and organize our annotated bibliographies.
For homework, use ideas from the feedback discussion to make revisions to your vignette. Organize your annotated bibliography to submit in the next lesson.
