Activity 1: Discuss – Read

We will research scholarships and other funding available for our various pathways.

Step 1

Revisit the applications you researched for homework. If you have questions regarding your applications, now is the time to discuss your concerns with your pathway group or instructor.

Share the applications of interest with your pathway group.

Step 2

Consider the university, institution, or program that you want to enter after high school. Work with a partner from your pathway group to research scholarships that could award aid; share resources with one another. As you are researching, do the following:

  • Vary your search terms. Instead of researching "scholarships," research "engineering scholarships," "Vanderbilt scholarships," “scholarship aid for…,” or “aid.”

  • Search for scholarships based on your GPA or ACT and SAT scores.

  • Search for scholarships that could give aid based on athletic or other extracurricular merit, like theater, dance, band, etc.

  • Search for scholarships based on your community service hours or your passions.

  • Search for scholarships based on the trade you are interested in pursuing.

  • Search for scholarships or aid based on the military pathway or training you are interested in pursuing.

As you research, set up a consistent way to track your applications and research. For example, you might create a spreadsheet with links to applications, scholarships and their descriptions and deadlines, or a class-shared Google Sheets page. Make sure to share this tracking system with your group members and discuss different ways to set up this system that will work effectively for you as individuals.

Activity 2: Discuss

We will discuss scholarship opportunities.

In your pathway groups, discuss the scholarships you found. As you listen to your peers’ research, consider sharing links among each other since your peers might have found scholarships that you did not and vice versa.

Begin completing one program application and one scholarship application for homework to submit with your Section 2 Diagnostic. As a part of the applications, begin to draft the accompanying essay, if applicable.
