Activity 1: Read – Write

We will peer review each others’ résumés in our pathway groups.

In this lesson, we will submit our résumés, annotated bibliographies, one practice scholarship application, and program application. Before peer reviewing résumés, revisit the Section 2 Diagnostic Checklist.

Now review the Portfolio Requirements. Your submitted portfolio must contain all of the requirements.

Meet in your pathway group. Trade résumés with a partner and use the Résumé Review Checklist to review the elements in your partner’s résumé. Use annotations and margin notes to provide feedback to your partner.

If you have created your résumé via Google Docs, share your résumé with your reviewer so they can leave comments. If you are sharing a paper copy, make sure the margins are wide enough for the reviewer’s notes.

Activity 2: Write

We will revise our résumés.

Review your partner’s feedback and revise your résumé as needed. When you are done, further revise your résumé based on the following questions:

  1. Did you spell correctly?

  2. Did you organize information chronologically?

  3. Did you include specific and concise details about your past accomplishments?

  4. Did you include your high school jobs, internships, or volunteer work?

  5. Did you include any awards or honors you have received so far in high school?

  6. Did you list any leadership experiences?

  7. Did you use a professional font and size?

  8. Did you include professional and accurate contact information?

It is helpful that you have stepped away from your résumé for a few lessons so that you might catch small and minor errors. After reviewing the suggested edits and the questions above, revisit your edits and add any additional action verbs or qualifications that you might have missed.

Activity 3: Write

We will revise our annotated bibliographies.

Revise your annotated bibliography independently based on the following questions:

  1. Did you accurately and concisely summarize the information from your sources?

  2. Did you accurately cite your sources?

  3. Did you follow the correct format for an annotated bibliography?

Activity 4: Write

We will complete a practice application for a program of our choice and a scholarship that we are interested in applying to.

Take out your program applications and scholarship applications that you began drafting in the previous lesson’s homework. Finish drafting a practice application for a postsecondary program of your choice as well as a scholarship application. Be sure to use formal and professional language, and include a draft of any essays that are part of the applications. This essay only needs to be in draft form for this diagnostic.

Activity 5: Discuss

We will assess how prepared we are for the Culminating Task.

Step 1

Take out your Culminating Task Progress Tracker. Think about all you have learned and done during this unit so far. Evaluate your skills and knowledge by answering the following questions:

  1. How prepared are you to succeed on the Culminating Task?

  2. What do you need to know and learn to do to succeed?

Add your résumé, annotated bibliographies, program application, and scholarship application to your portfolio.

Step 2

Review the Central Question of the unit:

How can I prepare for life after high school?

Use the following questions to guide a discussion with a partner or small group:

  1. What new knowledge do you have in relation to the Central Question?

  2. What are you still curious about in relation to the Central Question?

  3. What is the relationship between the Central Question and the texts you have read so far? How do the texts shed light on the Central Question? How does the Central Question help you understand the texts?

  4. How has your response to the Central Question evolved, deepened, or changed?

In your Learning Log, write your response to Question 4.
